Come hang with me at Sam Adams on Friday (St. Patrick's Day)
I'll be playing Irish music at the Boston Brewery in Jamaica Plain from 5-7pm
Hello friends, and I hope you’re all doing well! ICYMI, my new Irish folk album Forfocséic, Vol. 3: Love & War is now streaming everyone, so listen/download/steal/etc to your heart’s content, and please tell your friends to add it to their (and your) St. Patrick’s Day playlists.
And speaking of St. Patrick’s Day, I’ll be playing Irish music at the Sam Adams Boston Brewery right here in Jamaica Plain from 5pm-7pm on Friday evening. Come hang out, have a pretzel, sing-along. I assume (and hope) it’ll be more chill than your typical more downtown-Boston bar on St. Patrick’s Day, but who the hell knows.
Speaking of Irish music, I think I forgot to mention here that I won a Pandemic Recovery grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, specifically for my post-colonial Irish musical efforts. Which is pretty damn cool, too! I might even treat myself to a new guitar. Bevin said I could buy somethin’ pretty…as long as it’s under 4-digits. Which I think is a fair limitation, all things considered.
I also just found out that I’m shortlisted for what my dear friend Bob Proehl calls the “Hickman Fellowship.” Jonathan Hickman is a renowned comic creator who, after a recent stint revolutionizing the entire X-Men franchise, spun off to launch his own creator-owned, digital first comic book universe called
, along with artist/co-creators Mike del Mundo and Mike Huddleston. They held an open call contest of sorts for pitches set within their sprawling fictional space opera fantasy universe, and mine was one of 11 pitches picked to move on to the next round! That might not mean anything in the long run … or, it might ultimately lead to me writing a full-length comic book for 3W/3M. So that’s pretty freakin’ cool as well! And finally, my loud-as-hell power-pop band the Roland High Life will be at everyone’s favorite Allston dive bar, the Silhouette Lounge, next Wednesday, March 22. We were supposed to play there on January 2, but there was an electrical problem — not like “We’re gonna lose power in the middle of a song,” more like, as the electrician told us, “You might blow up your amplifiers, and yourselves, if you guys try to play.” While that might sound pretty rock n’ roll, we also took a vote and decided not to risk our lives to play for 30 people in Allston dive bar. So here’s a second chance!
